- ALWAYS call the farm or store BEFORE YOU GO to confirm their supply, their hours and whether they have trees, are allowing choose-and-cut or just precut trees; and which attractions or winter activities are available. All three can change during the short Christmas season, due to weather, demand and the farmer's business conditions! Farms get sold, shut down or run out of trees, and I have no way of knowing, because I can't call or visit every farm every month, let alone every day. A sleigh ride to Trail Creek Cabin for dinner has traditionally been one of the most memorable and fun Sun Valley winter experiences for the whole family. Round trip scenic rides are available Tuesday through Saturday. Private bookings are also available. Dinner sleighs leave the Sun Valley Inn at 6:00, 7:00 and 8:00 pm Tuesday through Saturday. Three sleighs depart at each time and each sleigh carries about 20 people. The ride lasts about 1⁄2 hour. Dress should be warm and blankets are provided. Reservations should be made well in advance to ensure availability. The purchase of a sleigh ride ticket confirms a reservation for dinner at Trail Creek Cabin. Reservations should be made through the Sports and Recreation Center, 208-622-2135. The Sports and Recreation Center is open daily from 8:00 am until the last sleigh leaves the Inn. Weather permitting, sleighs will run mid December through March.
