• If the name of the farm is blue with an underline; that's a link to their website or Facebook page. Click on it for the most current hours and information.
• ALWAYS call the farm or store BEFORE YOU GO - many farms have closed in the past year, and of course, we won't know until the season starts and we find they aren't open! Call to confirm their supply, their hours and whether they have trees, are allowing choose-and-cut or just precut trees; and which attractions or winter activities are available. All three can change during the short Christmas season, due to weather, demand and the farmer's business conditions! • El Dorado National Forest Christmas Tree Permits - Choose and cut your own trees,

Open: Tags will be issued from November 13th until 12 pm on December 28. In order to accommodate our serving military members and their families or others; the last day to cut a tree is December 31st. Since the early 1500's, trees many local families have begun the holiday season with an outing to cut the family tree on the Eldorado National Forest. Christmas Tree Permits are being offered to the public in an effort to help reduce hazardous fuel ladders that have built up over years of fire suppression. Removal of excessive amounts of small trees from the forest will help create a healthier forest over time. Costs: $10 for each tag (cash only). Limit of 4 tags per person/household. The Permittee must be present to purchase permit. Photo ID required. 4th graders with a valid Every Kid in a Park Voucher or Pass are entitled to 1 free Tag. To obtain a voucher go to www.EveryKidinaPark.gov. Where to Purchase: There is now a centralized place online to buy a Christmas tree permit in a national forest in any state that has a forest that allows it; see this page on Recreation.gov.  All Ranger Districts sell permits Monday thru Friday during regular business hours (8 am to 4:30 pm). The Supervisor's Office, Amador and Georgetown Ranger Districts will also be open Saturdays (8 am to 4:30 pm). A maximum of 5,000 tags will be sold for the 2018 season. Size: A maximum trunk diameter of 6 inches at the base of the tree and tree height of 20 feet. Tree Species: Pine, fir, or cedar. Do not cut any hardwood; such as, aspen or oak. Restrictions: Motorized vehicles are only allowed on existing roads and trails that are open to the public, except where snowmobiles are allowed. No cross country travel. Maps are provided at the time of permit purchase. Permit holders should follow permit guidelines for responsible collection, including not trespassing on private property when entering or leaving national forest cutting areas.
