How to Get a Letter From Santa to Your Child, Via the North Pole, U.S. Post Office

You may now have known that the U.S. Postal Service actually has a FREE service to have Santa respond to your child's letter sent to the north pole! If you follow the ddirections below, Santa will reply to your child's letter to Santa, via the U.S. mail services, complete with a postmark on the letter from the North Pole.

Here's how:Example letter from Santa with North Pole postmark over stamped envelope

  1. Have the child write a letter to Santa and place it in an envelope addressed to:
    Santa Claus, North Pole.
  2. Write a personalized response to the child's letter and sign it "From Santa."
I use a font that looks like old world handwriting, like

Script MT Bold, example: Dear Susan,

    and print it out.
To save paper you can write the response on the back of your child's letter.
  3. Insert both letters into an envelope, and address it to your child.
  4. Add the return address: SANTA, NORTH POLE, to the envelope.
  5. Be sure to put a a First-Class Mail stamp on the envelope.
  6. Place the complete envelope into a larger envelope, again, with appropriate postage, and address it to:

    NORTH POLE POSTMARK
    POSTMASTER
    4141 POSTMARK DR
    ANCHORAGE, AK-9998

Remember: you need to put

  • your child's letter to Santa , and
  • YOUR response (from Santa) to your child, AND
  • and envelope address to your child as shown at right

all inside the envelope addressed to "Santa Claus, North Pole" AND put stamps on both the inside and outside envelope.

We recommend sending Greetings from the North Pole by early December (by the end of the first week of December) so that they can be received by the Anchorage, AK, Postmaster no later than December 14. Santa's helpers in Anchorage, AK, will take care of the rest!

Tips:

  • When responding as Santa, make the response as personal as possible by highlighting your child's accomplishments over the past year. For example, helping around the house, receiving good grades in a particular subject at school or participating in community service activities.
  • Be environmentally friendly, save paper by writing on both sides of your child's letter. If you keep them together, your child will also be able to recall what he or she wrote.
  • This is a great activity for Thanksgiving that the whole family can enjoy, including parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and other caregivers.
